On Sunday, August 3, the second day of the Public Hearing for the PSJ Cobre Mendocino Project took place, marked by the strong participation of residents from Uspallata and a wide variety of testimonies. PSJ continues to advance in this participatory stage.

The second session of the Public Hearing for the PSJ Cobre Mendocino Project, held on Sunday, August 3 at Estancia Yalguaraz, featured significant involvement of neighbors from Uspallata. The testimonies addressed environmental, economic, and social aspects of the project, reflecting a diversity of perspectives and strong civic engagement.

This stage, convened by the Government of Mendoza, is part of the environmental evaluation process in accordance with Provincial Law No. 5961 and its regulatory decree. PSJ places high value on this participatory space, which allows the community to express opinions, raise concerns, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the project.

Local Participation and Diversity of Voices

During the session, presentations were heard from a broad representation of Uspallata residents who shared their experiences, expectations, and concerns regarding mining development in the region.

This participation demonstrates the community’s interest in being actively involved in public debate and in building, from the local level, a model of responsible mining with tangible benefits for the regional economy.

Infrastructure and Services to Ensure Safe and Accessible Participation

The venue in Yalguaraz was specially prepared to guarantee comfort and safety for all participants. Available services included:

  • Heated tents for speakers and attendees

  • Drinking water and refreshments

  • Chemical toilets and sanitary facilities

  • Medical assistance points with permanent ambulance service

  • Open Wi-Fi connectivity

  • Separate access points for press, authorities, and technical teams

  • Security personnel and organizers trained to assist the public
