The activity was convened by the Mining Environmental Authority with the goal of ensuring access to information and promoting citizen participation. Residents from various localities in Greater Mendoza and the southern part of the province took part.
On Friday, April 25, a new guided visit to the PSJ Cobre Mendocino Project was carried out as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process of the project known as Malargüe Western Mining District 2 (MDMO 2). The initiative, promoted by the Mining Environmental Authority, aimed to give the public the opportunity to learn firsthand about a mining project in an advanced stage of exploration.
Residents from different departments of Mendoza joined the visit, which included a general presentation on the Project, environmental protection measures, applied technology, and the geological and natural context of the area. The tour also included the main operational areas and the site where future infrastructure will be implemented.
The organization provided transportation from Greater Mendoza and the southern region of the province, along with safety instructions prior to the visit. This was the second activity of its kind organized by the competent authority, continuing a series of open instances designed to strengthen access to clear and verifiable information within the participatory process leading up to the public hearing.
The PSJ Cobre Mendocino Project, located in Uspallata, Las Heras Department, is one of the most advanced mining initiatives in the Province. Its design incorporates mechanical flotation technology with biodegradable reagents, prioritizes local hiring, and is expected to generate approximately 3,900 jobs during the construction phase and 2,400 during operations (800 direct and 1,600 indirect).
These visits represent a key step in fostering dialogue, transparency, and citizen participation in the evaluation of strategic projects for Mendoza’s economic and energy development.
