PSJ Cobre Mendocino places employment and training at the heart of its social impact and sustainable development strategy. The project is expected to create 2,400 direct and indirect jobs during its operational phase, with a clear priority on hiring local residents. This focus on local employment is complemented by a comprehensive training and capacity-building program to ensure the community can access and benefit from these job opportunities.
Training programs are delivered in partnership with institutions such as INSTEC and INSUTEC and cover a range of technical and practical skills, including mining logistics, CPR, defensive driving, and diamond drilling. More than 450 certificates have already been awarded to residents of Uspallata, illustrating PSJ’s ongoing investment in workforce development.
In addition to workforce training, PSJ supports local suppliers through business development training, helping them meet industry standards and integrate into the mining supply chain. This includes capacity-building initiatives aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to foster long-term economic resilience in the region.
The company also applies a gender-sensitive hiring approach, ensuring that women and underrepresented groups have access to employment opportunities within the project.
PSJ’s employment and training initiatives are designed not only to fill project roles but to leave a lasting positive legacy in terms of skill development, economic inclusion, and local empowerment.
