PSJ Cobre Mendocino’s initiatives in education and health are integral to its community development and social responsibility strategy. These efforts focus on improving access to learning opportunities and supporting local health systems, particularly in the Uspallata region.
Education
PSJ has launched a series of free training programs for local residents in partnership with educational institutions such as INSTEC and INSUTEC. These programs cover technical and practical subjects like mining logistics, CPR, defensive driving, and diamond drilling. Over 450 certificates have already been awarded. These courses are designed not only to prepare residents for employment within the project but also to enhance their long-term career prospects in related sectors.
In addition to job-focused training, PSJ supports local entrepreneurs through initiatives such as the Seed Entrepreneurs Program, offering guidance and support for business development, formalization, and sustainable growth.
Health
PSJ has conducted risk assessments related to noise, dust, vibration, and tailings, with a focus on minimizing potential impacts on community health. The project has also taken early steps to support local health and emergency services in Uspallata. These include contributions to emergency preparedness and protocols for environmental contingencies.
Together, these education and health initiatives reflect PSJ’s commitment to inclusive, long-term community well-being, ensuring that development is both socially beneficial and environmentally safe.
