PSJ Cobre Mendocino’s approach to biodiversity focuses on conservation, impact prevention, and the sustainable management of natural ecosystems within and around the project area. Extensive environmental studies have been conducted covering fauna, flora, limnology, ecohydrology, glaciology, and climate change to build a detailed baseline and guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

The project is designed to minimize disturbance to local ecosystems. Only about 3% of the legally acquired land is being used, and assessments have confirmed there is no nearby impact from noise, dust, or transportation of materials. These findings help ensure that surrounding habitats and wildlife are not adversely affected.

Management plans include specific measures to protect species and habitats identified in the baseline studies. These measures are integrated into the Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Management Plan. PSJ’s adherence to national and international standards, such as those of the IFC, ensures that biodiversity considerations are aligned with globally recognized best practices.

In summary, PSJ Cobre Mendocino prioritizes biodiversity protection by combining scientific research, limited land use, careful planning, and compliance with rigorous environmental standards.
