PSJ Cobre Mendocino’s social impact strategy is centered on inclusive development, community engagement, and respect for local values. The company operates under an open-door policy and has established a local office in Uspallata to maintain continuous dialogue with the community. This ensures direct communication, transparency, and accessibility for residents to raise concerns, offer suggestions, or participate in project-related decisions.

The project is expected to generate 2,400 direct and indirect jobs during its operational phase, with a strong emphasis on local hiring. PSJ has already initiated training programs in partnership with institutions like INSTEC and INSUTEC, offering courses in mining logistics, CPR, defensive driving, and diamond drilling. Over 450 certificates have been awarded, empowering locals to participate in the job market and the supply chain.

Through its Sustainable Development Program, PSJ supports regional entrepreneurship and social initiatives. Notable efforts include a textile partnership with Xinca through the PAZANDINO program, creating sustainable employment for local women, and the Seed Entrepreneurs Program, which helps local businesses grow and formalize.

The project also follows a gender-sensitive approach to employment and ensures respect for indigenous communities by adhering to the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), even though no indigenous settlements exist directly on project land.

PSJ’s social strategy is comprehensive, focusing on employment, education, inclusivity, and respectful engagement with all stakeholders to maximize shared value and long-term community development.
